Reporting lines: who reports to whom

The Reporting To field decides which people a manager sees.

Updated October 22, 2026 1 min read

Each employee can have one Reporting To person. Together these form your organization chart.

Why it matters

  • A Manager sees everyone below them in the chart, not only their direct reports. If Sara reports to Ali and Ali reports to Maya, Maya sees both.
  • Managers also see the members of groups they manage.
  • When someone starts or ends a work session, their direct Reporting To person gets a notification.

Set or change it

Open Employees, select Edit and choose a person in Reporting To. Trackion stops you from creating a loop, such as two people reporting to each other.

Tip

If a manager says their list of employees is empty, check that their team’s Reporting To field points to them, or add them as a manager of the right group.
